WHAT WE DO
Although CODEO’s principal mandate is domestic election observation in Ghana, the Coalition provides technical support and capacity building programs for similar groups in different countries in Africa. CODEO is able to accomplish this task through the generous donations and technical support it receives from international organizations and donor agencies.
The process of election observation involves recruitment, training and deployment of citizens from our 39- member organizations drawn from the ten regions of Ghana.
As part of efforts to ensure professionalism and maintain non-partisanship in the field, the Coalition develops training manuals for our observers. The manuals contain detailed guidelines covering every aspect of the observation process and serves as a reference point for all field staff in the performance of their duties.
The Coalition also develops relevant data collection instruments such as checklists, questionnaires and/ incident report forms to aid the process. CODEO deploys these trained observers to randomly selected and a nationally representative polling stations to observe the elections.
In addition to the presidential and parliamentary elections, CODEO also observes parliamentary bye-elections, local government elections and primaries of the various political parties.
