The Menace of Political Party Vigilantism: Reflections from Tamale

Today, CODEO held a press confab to relay the observations of the stakeholders discussion on political vigilantism held in Tamale on July 11, 2017. Stakeholders proposed the organization of a National Security Summit to deliberate, and develop actionable plans to tackle identified threats to the state's security including tackling party vigilantism. Other solutions submitted included: ' The establishment of an independent body to appoint heads of security agencies and all heads of security agencies must be given security of tenure. 'Decoupling the Ministry of Justice from the Attorney General's Department. 'Adequately resourcing the Police Service to be able to combat criminal activities by these vigilante groups. 'Naming and shaming political party leaders who support and patronize the services of vigilante groups. Read more in the full statement
